“They put these pie-in-the-sky anti-Cuba recommendations out which have no basis in fact or reality simply to please hardliners who support them politically. The recommendations would have little relevance to anything and be generally ignored if they were not such a colossal waste of taxpayers money, so imperialist in their tone and substance, and so callous with the rights of Americans.” ~Serrano50 years of communist dictatorship is obviously not enough for Serrano. I say this because he then goes on to make up his objections about the State Department's plans for helping Cuba recover from Castro's decades long dictatorship.
“But the more ominous portion of today’s report is the sections that we all know exist, but were not made public: those that deal with a potential military intervention in Cuba. I fear that those plans could involve American military intervention in Cuba’s internal affairs, which should not and cannot be part of any responsible American plan for future dealings with Cuba. We should be seeking to reassure the Cubans and the world that we have no intentions, and indeed no plans, to intervene in their nation.
“In any transition scenario, we must respect Cuba’s sovereignty and their right to determine their own future form of government. We have no direct role to play in that transition. Our role should be to keep our hands off Cuba, both now and in the future.” ~Serrano
How is it that when communist dictators hold their offices for life, have one party rule, and crush all opposing dissent that they are 'sovereign and determining their own future'? But Bush is an illigitimate President?
I represent a district in the Bronx made up of over 95% minorities, mostly Puerto Rican, Hispanic, and African-American. Our community gave more than 90% of their vote to the candidate who received the most votes across our nation, and still did not become President.
That result has troubled them in a most dramatic way. They are angry, bitter, and disenchanted with the whole process. Some of them claim that this felt like what they remember from the days before the Civil Rights movement, and others say that it reminds them of political systems they left behind in other countries, where the winner never took office. To all of this, add the fact that the final tallies came from a state with close family ties to the winner and you can see why people in my community and throughout our nation feel the way they do. ~house.gov/serrano
The fact is that Cuba is not free today and the death of Castro would be the first real opportunity for freedom in Cuba in over 50 years. Of course those like Hugo Chavez and useful idiots like Cindy Sheehan are intent on ensuring that communist dictatorship endures and even expands throughout Southern and Northern America.
HAVANA - Cuba suspects the Bush administration has military plans to topple Fidel Castro's Communist government, but is too bogged down in Iraq to invade, one of Castro closest aides said on Thursday. ~MSNBC.com
And perhaps they do have military plans, who knows. But Cuba is going to need some kind of help to get out of the communist dictatorship business. Castros brother is set to take over. With Hugo Chavez ready to back up continued communist rule.
