award for careless talkFrom Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's personal 'blog', an entry about a speech on the gap between rich and poor states.

This is a good example of how, 'the enemy is listening,' and is using the anti-american rhetoric of the left against us. Text of entry follows (with paragraph breaks added by me):

Kuala Lumpur, March 2

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Thursday said that the gap between the rich and poor countries is one of the major challenges facing the world of today. Speaking at the meeting in Kuala Lumpur attended by Iranian and Malaysian tradesmen, he underlined that such a gap and discrimination will pose serious threat to the international system.

"No one should be humiliated. We can help our countries and nations make the utmost progress through close cooperation. "Arms race among some countries has made the general atmosphere of the global exchanges tense and insecure," he added. The chief executive noted that a great part of the nations' resources are either wasted or end up being stockpiled as weapons. "The resources which should be allocated to the health, welfare and progress of nations are rather used to get armed, take lives and enter into conflicts with unpredictable ends," he added. Concerning the greed and monopoly of some big powers, he attributed their monopoly to their injustice, non-monotheistic beliefs and wish to expel others from the scene.

"Some of the world powers want the nations' wealth to be deposited to their accounts. "Development in its western sense is an unattainable mirage. In other words it is a goal that cannot actually be materialized," he added.

The president noted that development in its western sense makes the nations entangled in a cycle so that the more they advance, the more their dependence and limitations and the darker the horizon facing them. "In the western development, flourishing of national talents, self-belief and self-confidence, revival and promotion of the national identities of the nations, which are their greatest assets, are not taken into consideration," he added.

Ahmadinejad assessed the protection of cultural/historical identity and its globalization as a support for a nation's advancement. Meanwhile, the president urged the need for expansion of Iran-Malaysia economic relations and called for precise planning in this regard.

Prior to Ahmadinejad's speech, head of Malaysian Chamber of Commerce and deputy head of Iran's Chamber of Commerce for international affairs delivered speeches in which they stressed the will of both sides for bolstering of economic ties. President Ahmadinejad, heading a political-economic delegation, arrived in Malaysia Wednesday night on a three-day official visit.
