Tea with dictatorsBesides the impending U.S. invasion and assasination of it's glorious leader, Venezuela has little reason to become a regional superpower. Unless, of course, you factor in the end game of most socialist revolutions-- i.e. to spread and dominate, er, I mean liberate surrounding countries from the clutches of soul crushing capitalism.

Let's take a look at what Bush's "culture of fear" is supposed to look like.
Chavez was speaking at a rally in Caracas to commemorate a failed 1992 coup that he led as a lieutenant-colonel. He said: "The imperialist, genocidal, fascist attitude of the US president has no limits."

He said that Washington was considering invading Venezuela and that the country therefore needed more weapons to defend itself.

"We still need a higher number of rifles," he said. "The Russian rifles are not enough. Venezuela needs to have one million well-equipped and well-armed men and women." ~aljazeera.net
Imagine Bush speaking at a rally to commemorate a failed-coup that he had led as a Lt. Col. Just a thought.

1,000,000 man army?

"Venezuela needs to have one million well-equipped and well-armed men and women."

A million man army? Whooowee! That's a lot of soldiers. But then I guess you would need a high ratio of indigenous cannon fodder when you're facing the invading Imperialist and Hegemonic U.S. Armed Forces! But a million? That has to be expensive. It sounds as though someone is building a military industrial complex south of the border. Damn those corporations! How will that help the people of Venezuela? Don't they need entitlement programs and numerous, 'Citizen's Committees of the People's Revolution' for this and that?

It's just too bad that Bush's culture of fear fomentation (and perhaps racism we might add), has metastasized and infected the glorious leader of the revolution in Venezuela. President-for-life Hugo Chavez is now using religion to prepare for war. Oh, the humanity! (Also note the racist slur at the beginning.)
To prepare for a gringo [racist slur] attack, the Armed Forces and members of coastal communities recently stuffed three statues of virgins normally reserved for Catholic holidays with rifles and mortars to be used in a simulated ambush. The activity was part of a series of war games carried out here with over 3,000 troops and civilians. ~time.com
But why? Why would the U.S. even contemplate invading Venezuela? Besides the fact that the Jewish neo-con chickenhawk cabal is a bloodthirsty bunch, I mean. Maybe if we spelled it out: B - L - O - O - D... F - O - R... O - I - L ! ! ! Yeah! Everyone sing along...
Government officials say they need to guard against the Americans because Washington is after their vast oil reserves, the largest in the hemisphere, as global energy supplies dwindle and prices rise. "The imperialist hegemony has kept its eyes on our natural resources," said Jose Franco, naval police commander and head of the military exercises.

In preparation for such an attack, Chavez announced a plan last year to boost Venezuela's civilian reserves count from 50,000 to 2 million men and women, almost 10% of the population.

Military officials say they must train ordinary citizens to employ tactics like those used against Americans in the Iraqi insurgency and the Vietnam war because the Armed Forces cannot match the U.S. military might on their own. ~time.com
Mine eyes have seen the glory! The Imperialist Hegemony of GW the merciful and compassionate (conservative) is marching, and, "he has loosed the fateful lightning of his terrible swift sword," upon the fledgling egalitarian society of Venezuela in a desparate bid to control the world's oil!!!
Earlier this month, Chavez received his first shipment of 100,000 Kalashnikov rifles from Russia; he also purchased a license to produce Kalashnikovs in Venezuela. In the wake of the recently passed U.S. arms ban against his country, Chavez is looking to acquire Russian helicopters and fighter aircraft — and is set to visit Moscow in late July to discuss arms deals, among other matters. Late last week, after Chavez announced a deal to buy 24 Russian fighter jets, a U.S. State Department spokesman said Venezuela appeared to be in the midst of an "outsized military buildup for a country of that size and the nature of the threats" in the region. Venezuelan officials say the purchases are not part of any real arms buildup, but simply a necessary move to replace aging, outdated military equipment. ~time.com
Simply a necessary move. Uh huh.

Fearmongering - Check.
Scapegoating - Check.
Weapons buildup - Check.
Official denials - Check.

Let's see what's next?
